Greeting and parting



Read the following dialog.
Dialog 1.
Teacher : Good morning my beloved students!
Students : Good morning Mam!
Teacher : Are you ready to learn English today?
Students : Yes Mam. We are ready.

Dialog 2.
Tommy : I must register on football competition now. See you again Jessica.
Jessica : See you Tommy. Be successful.

The teacher in dialog 1 is starting her class. She greets her students by saying "Good morning my beloved students!"
The boy in dialog 2 is going to register on football competition. To part with his friend, he says "See you again Jessica"

Here are some expressions you may use to greet and part with other people
Greeting
  • Good morning!
  • Good afternoon!
  • Good evening!
  • Hello!

  • evening!
  • Hi, (Shinta)! How are you
  • Good to see you (again)!
  • (How/Very) nice to see you again!
Parting

  • Mind how you go. Bye!
  • Take care. Bye!
  • Look after yourself. Bye!
Notes:
You say "Good morning./Morning." at 12 midnight up to 12 noon.
You say "Good afternoon./Afternoon." at 12:01 p.m up to 6 p.m..
You say "Good evening./Evening." at 06: 01 p.m up to 9 p.m.
You say "Good night." when you want to leave other people at night, for example, when you want to go to sleep or leave someone's house.
